Moods Of Norway

if you are looking for something to wear to that NYE party tonight I highly recommend a piece from Moods Of Norway's F/W 08 'Cocktail Collection.' started four years ago by two friends in Stryn, Norway, they just opened their flagship store in the larger city of Bergen. the S/S 09 line should once again include crazy short shorts and flawless tanks, so look forward to that.

have fun tonight - see you in the new year!

Will Stroud

Will Stroud Cinematography Reel from Will Stroud on Vimeo.

here's a new BMX short from North Carolinian Will Stroud, which features worldwide locales, beautiful cinematography, great song choice, and amazing riding.. inspiring stuff. for bike fans and film buffs alike. thanks Prolly.

Macho Man Randy Savage

I am by no means a 'pro' wresting fan, but damned if the Macho Man Randy Savage isn't one of the funniest dudes ever in his sport (and maybe in the general population). granted, the man had some very real problems with steroids and drugs, but they probably only aided in building his massively insane persona.. anyway, this but one video that highlights the brilliance of his ramblings.. ohh YEAH brother!

Engineered Garments Spring/Summer 2009

The Spring 2009 collection from Engineered Garments has recently been previewed on their website. The lookbook in very well put together with great styling and wonderful pieces. I love the color pallet, lots of olive green, dark reds, navy blue and khaki done with great complimentary fabrics. Also, the usage of bold patterns and the matching tops and bottoms are a really interesting look. Once again Engineered Garments comes correct with a nice range of looks and pieces, making them one of my favorite lines at the moment.

21.19

21.19 are a design team from Melbourne and have done some rather striking work in print, web and video media. these two images come from the campaign kit of the film 'Finding Bidi' (which I can't find any info about..), the autobiography of Bita Hairdarian, an 'American born Iranian.' peep the website for their winning video in a Hewlett-Packard sponsored/based short-film competition.. good laughs.

ad appreciation: Miller High Life

these two Miller High Life ads by Errol Morris  are absolutely amazing. 'Alternative Fuels' basically cover all the things I am into right now; flannel, riding a bike and beers. Add in the fact that Victoria is covered in snow right now and it is a perfect match. I thought these would be very fitting due to our lovely little taste of an east coast winter.

Salt lake Temple letterpress poster by Cameron Moll

even though I'm not a huge font nerd, this poster by American artist Cameron Moll really caught my eye. put together a letter at a time over 100+ hours, he used the Bickham Script Pro, Engravers MT, and the Epic typeface families to construct the image. they go for $75 US and can be purchased here

Lanvin tennis shoes

even though I pretty much only wear Chucks when it comes to trainers, I could really get in to these Lanvin jams. simple and clean with a slim profile, these are what men's casual shoes should look like. but with a $570 US price tag I'll definitely have to wait until they go on mega super sale at Holt like I did with my boat shoes.

Track Bike Times Edit #2

it has been snowy and sub-zero here in Victoria for the last week and it shows no signs of letting up, with the forecast calling for cold and ice all the way to the new year. besides all the snow, the salt and sand make it less than ideal for getting out for a ride. this is making me crazy - there is only so many track stand sessions I can do in my living room (at least I have hardwood..). anyway, Tracko just posted this vid and it's really helping me live vicariously through these rippers.

ad appreciation: Hedi Slimane for Prada spring 2009

Prada have recently teamed up with designer/photographer Hedi Slimane to shoot an ad for their Spring 2009 campaign. Slimane, the former designer for Dior Homme, has never worked with Prada before, and after leaving Dior last year Slimane has really been focusing on his photography. For this shoot Slimane took black and white portraits of Claude and Louis Simonon, the sons of Paul and Trish Simonon, the bass player and manager of the The Clash. In a statement Prada said the brothers were photographed "in moments of reflection and introspection. It is a symbolic yet understated approach to desire in mens wear; a new classicism with a rebel edge."

Mishka + Actual Pain

even though this is ancient news in blogland, I figured I would big up the Mishka + Actual Pain collaboration anyway. I'm not really a streetwear or graphic tee guy, but when something is good something's good, right? the shirt featured above should arrive at my friend Larry's place shortly (he's a Mishka preferred customer ha), and I'm really stoked to get gully in my fresh white Rusputin shirt. the other items from the collection are good too.. check them out here

Rusko Essential Mix

the subject of the first ever post on 84/85, Rusko is back with his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, KILLING it with the heavy wobbly isht and off-kilter tempos. this sound looks to be one of the big things to come in 09 as producers move past 4/4 bangers into more inventive sounds, many of which are showcased on this mix. pick this one up and thump it hard.

Vinchen

Vinchen is an artist based out of Columbus, OH. the always-excellent Wooster Collective recently did an interview with him that featured some great answers to some poignant questions (ex: Q. 'what do you fear the most?' A. 'indifference. one man's indifference is another's executioner'). in this time of economic insecurity and fearfulness I really appreciate his straight-up take on America and the cultural myths that encompass it. learn more about Vinchen here.

Engineered Garments duffle

This Engineered Garments duffle bag is my new favorite thing. I absolutely love this piece - from the color to the styling, it is amazing. The bag was featured on ACL along with a few other great pieces from the Japanese store MAPS. It is out of my reach and also budget right now, but until then I will keep dreaming about this perfect bag.

Rachel..

is 40! and gittdamn, she looks good.. these shots are from next month's GQ, which appeared today on men.style.com. even though I get sick of seeing her face in the supermarket line tabloids, I gotta hand it to Jennifer Aniston.. she certainly knows how to market herself.

Cut Copy + the Golden Filter

it's been a HUGE year for Cut Copy.. not to sound snobbish, but the little band I've loved since 'Bright Like Neon Love' has absolutely blown up. and it is well, well deserved.. these guys are true pioneers, leading the inventive Australian charge. their '08 album 'In Ghost Colours' is definitely one of my favorites of the year, and their concert I attended in Toronto was one of my year's best as well ('Hearts on Fire' live = the tops). Modular recently released 'Far Away' as their next digital single, including remixes from Hercules and Love Affair, Damn Arms, and the Golden Filter. You may remember TGF from their early '08 disco smash 'Solid Gold,' which was heard on floors all summer. here they work that same arrpegiated magic on the Cutters, and the result is dreamy mid-tempo pop bliss

Bastien Lattanzio's 'Perspective Line'

John Prolly recently posted a link to the short film on his blog.. and since there's no way to embed this film, I think I'll do the same. a more artistic take on filming track bikes, the film also features a soundtrack by Philip Glass (a surefire way to hold my interest).

Corpus

one of my favorite favorite lines is Corpus, based out of LA. this time of year a lot of lines are showing their full spring/summer 09 collections, and Corpus is yet to even give us a peak! these are some of my favorite looks from their f/w 08 line.. and here is a good interview with the designers. look for their s/s 09 collection to continue in the en-masse trend towards americana-inspired materials and tailoring, as many designers move away from super-skinny fits and flashier prints.

80 Blocks From Tiffany's: a documentary on early New York street gangs

80 Blocks from Tiffany's is a documentary about New York street gangs in the South Bronx from 1979. The film depicts life as it was in the late 70's and early 80's in that neighborhood and the hard times and deprivation in this poverty stricken area. It was these types of hard time and the accompanying lifestyles that birthed the culture of early hip-hop music. These types of gangs and groups were formed out of necessity in order to get together and survive in these harsh conditions, and the music and culture was a way for people to escape these realities. It is an eight part video but it is well worth the full watch.

Damien Hirst Art Directs The Hours New Video

The Hours new music video for their single, 'See the Light' is art directed by Damien Hirst, and made by 'American History X' director Toney Kaye. The video features Sienna Miller as the crazed, suicidal main character of the video, running through a series of interesting scenarios. The Hours first album also featured artwork from Hirst as well as their next album titled 'See the Light'. Not a bad person to have on your team, Hirst is arguably one of the greatest artists of our time.
