The Sartorialist: A Heavy Dose of Workwear...

The 'workwear' label has been popping up quite a bit on the Sartorialist as of late. It seems that this look is really solidifying its spot in the fashion word, and with the right styling it is now seen as a very legitimate aesthetic. Pairing authentic, well cut flannel with some worked in selvedge or raw denim and a good boot like a Redwing Irish Setter will always be seen as classic and timeless. Scott Schuman (the Sartorialist), has caught some very well put together looks, and here are a few of my favorites.

Engineered Garments Spring/Summer 2009

The Spring 2009 collection from Engineered Garments has recently been previewed on their website. The lookbook in very well put together with great styling and wonderful pieces. I love the color pallet, lots of olive green, dark reds, navy blue and khaki done with great complimentary fabrics. Also, the usage of bold patterns and the matching tops and bottoms are a really interesting look. Once again Engineered Garments comes correct with a nice range of looks and pieces, making them one of my favorite lines at the moment. 

American heritage brand revival

as you've probably seen, a whole new generation is embracing the iconic domestic workwear manufactures of years past. 84/85 is no different.. there's a constant vintage shopping battle taking place between us, a search for the nicest prints and fits by labels such as Pendleton, Woolrich, and LL Bean. and I guess the mainstream media has taken notice.. even though they manage to drop the most cliched narrowing term of 2008 (hipster), I gotta give it up to the LA Times for writing this well-informed article on the trend. I think the major difference between these brands from the past and the and imitations you see from followers today (who are mostly fashion labels) is the authenticity.. but that's a different subject entirely. 

Deluxe: The Street Tailor Collection A/W 08'

Here is a look at Japanese label Deluxe's Autumn/Winter 08' collection. This is just another example of how the Japanese are taking traditional American work wear styles and reinventing them with quality construction, materials and tailored cuts. I am a sucker for good work wear because of the timelessness of the pieces and the durability and heavy construction of the garments. This collection is looking strong with some great outerwear, shirts and knit pieces as well as a nice range of khakis and trousers. Check here for the full lookbook.
