Bison b. c.

during the ongoing process to sharpen up the edges of my dirtbag life I always find time to listen to some good metal. at the tops of the go-to list are Bison b. c. out of Vancouver.. solid thrash power metal at it's finest, Bison get me jacked to ride / vacuum hard. their just-released album 'Quiet Earth' (on Metal Blade records) is mad solid, and the title track is prolly the most badass of all.

Bison b. c. - Quiet Earth

look for this on my top albums list, which should be coming sometime next week (along with top singles / top remixes). holler!

American heritage brand revival

as you've probably seen, a whole new generation is embracing the iconic domestic workwear manufactures of years past. 84/85 is no different.. there's a constant vintage shopping battle taking place between us, a search for the nicest prints and fits by labels such as Pendleton, Woolrich, and LL Bean. and I guess the mainstream media has taken notice.. even though they manage to drop the most cliched narrowing term of 2008 (hipster), I gotta give it up to the LA Times for writing this well-informed article on the trend. I think the major difference between these brands from the past and the and imitations you see from followers today (who are mostly fashion labels) is the authenticity.. but that's a different subject entirely.

Via Snella F/W '08

a small menswear line based out of Stockholm, Via Snella currently retail in their hometown and Barcelona. with a clean approach to steetwear, lets hope they make it to North America soon.

daily dose of WTF

James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince performing at a Charity event. I don't know about you but I think Prince might have been hanging out with Whitney in the back, if you know what I'm saying. He tries to play the guitar and fails, then tries to sing ending in the same result, all he can do is take his shirt off and flail around. This video is amazing, what a combo.

College + Moulinex

one of my favorite producers of the last couple years, College, recently had his track 'Fantasy Park' remixed by 2008 go-to artist Moulinex, and the result is a beautiful, sweeping track that definitely ranks in my tops of '08. this year everything that came from the Valerie and Discotexas labels was pure gold, and I can't wait to hear the sounds they come with in 2009. as always, buy more on beatport.

Gwang Gyo city center design, South Korea

this is the winning entry by MVRDV Architects in a competition to design a sustainable community in the suburbs of Seoul. all the buildings are terraces, edged with boxed planters to create the look of a 'hill.' the voids in the buildings are to create semi-public spaces along with light and ventilation. all told, the community aims to house 77,000 people and should be completed by the end of 2011 (!).

leave it to people outside North America to show us what the future will look like.. where's my sustainable hill community Stephen Harper?!

daily dose of WTF

in the same hilarious vein as Ninjasonik yet with a disturbingly less-ironic angle, New Mexico's Brokencyde are here to rock the f*ckn party. this video is AMAZING. I gotta hand it to them though.. their sound is pretty hype. I wish I'd had auto-tune software when I was 18..

get crunk! screamingly crunk! (thx bday party Berlin)

Asahi Ginger Draft

one thing I've yet to cover on 84/85 is my love for Japan. the nuance of the culture is fascinating.. so much more variety (and not to mention advancement) than here in North America. an example of this is a new beer by my favorite Japanese brewery, Asahi. alcoholic vegtable-ish drinks have been all the rage in Japan for a while, and I guess this another extension of that trend.

also, love the tv ads.
