ad appreciation: Miller High Life

these two Miller High Life ads by Errol Morris  are absolutely amazing. 'Alternative Fuels' basically cover all the things I am into right now; flannel, riding a bike and beers. Add in the fact that Victoria is covered in snow right now and it is a perfect match. I thought these would be very fitting due to our lovely little taste of an east coast winter.

ad appreciation: Hedi Slimane for Prada spring 2009

Prada have recently teamed up with designer/photographer Hedi Slimane to shoot an ad for their Spring 2009 campaign. Slimane, the former designer for Dior Homme, has never worked with Prada before, and after leaving Dior last year Slimane has really been focusing on his photography. For this shoot Slimane took black and white portraits of Claude and Louis Simonon, the sons of Paul and Trish Simonon, the bass player and manager of the The Clash. In a statement Prada said the brothers were photographed "in moments of reflection and introspection. It is a symbolic yet understated approach to desire in mens wear; a new classicism with a rebel edge."

ad appreciation - Zadig & Voltaire

Zadig & Voltaire are a streetwear line in the same vein as fellow French punk-infused brand The Kooples. glam styling, skeletal tailoring and that dirty-rich-beautiful vibe make their ad campaigns a thing of beauty. I include the bottom photo as it's used in their current European marketing (still working on that scanner).

ad appreciation - Dsquared2

I remember being in the south of France about 3 years ago and seeing a boutique packed to the brim with Dsquared2.. and I remember thinking, 'wow, this shit is ugly and rediculously expensive.' but that was 3 years ago. gone are the cheesy polo shirts and in are the perfectly tailored suiting and casual that you see above. this ad series kills me.. be it the post-rehab Macauly Caulkin-looking model or the cut of those suit trousers with the alligator skin shoes, the fall/winter 08/09 Dsquared2 campaign has been one of my favorites
